Roof Collapse at Santo Domingo Nightclub Kills 221, Including Two MLB Retirees

Burials begin for victims in the Dominican nightclub collapse that killed 221

This is my first of two posts on this story:

This devastating tragedy at a Nightclub happened on April 8th, or 4/8.

Two former Major League Baseball players were among the dead in Santo Domingo, Dominican Republic. They were Octavio Dotel and Tony Blanco.

In 2019, I made this post after former MLB player and Hall of Famer David Ortiz was allegedly shot in Santo Domingo, his place of birth.

In 2022, I made this post following the death of former MLB pitcher Odalis Perez in an accident at his Santo Domingo home. This stands out because the performer on stage at the time of this week’s collapse, was also named Pérez.

David Américo Ortiz Arias was born 19 years, 8 months, 10 days after Rubby Perez:
