Juneteenth Becomes a National Holiday
You’re not going to say you’re against Juneteenth becoming a national holiday, are you? What are you, pro-slavery?!?!
Sure, the end of slavery was a wonderful thing. I wasn’t there or anything, but the act of extending human rights to all humans was overdue. I even wrote a song dedicated to Abolishment back in 2007.
I just feel like there’s a reason that for over 150 years, this was not a national holiday. The period of slavery in America is a black eye on our history and the quicker we move away from it, the better. Having a holiday to celebrate what we’re not doing feels strange to me. Imagine if England had a holiday for every date that a nation under their rule gained its independence – they would never have to work!
But of course, the main reason this feels bad to me is because it’s yet another log from the mainstream media tossed into the fire of racial division. Yes, some racism still exists, particularly in certain parts of the country, but what the media will never really tell you is that yes, you as a man or woman of any color CAN succeed in this nation with enough hard work and determination. They also won’t mention how whites are also victimized by class warfare, but I digress.
Juneteenth became a national holiday on June 17th, the date written 6/17.
