Organic – Classmate Who Died in 1998 Plane Crash
The article linked from the headline above is about the passing of four members of the Daleo family, who died in a plane crash on May 15th, 1998 in southeastern Wisconsin. Two brothers and their sister, all in their 40’s, were killed along with the woman’s 12-year-old son.
That son was a kid I went to the same middle school as. I didn’t really know him well, as he was a grade younger than me, but we did share a gym class at one point, and both played in the school band.
Naturally, people tend to have fonder memories of those who we’ve lost than we may have actually experienced. But I can honestly say there was something special about him. Not only was he one of the smartest kids I knew, but he had a cheerful personality and didn’t seem to rub anyone the wrong way.
His name was Michael Bay, and his mother’s name was Kathleen. This alone has some synchronicity in it for me – my middle name is Michael, and my mother’s name is Kathleen.

This occurred in 1998. The other noticeable synchronicity is that a man named Michael Bay happens to be one of the most successful film directors of all-time. Prior to the Transformers series, Bay’s highest-grossing film was Armageddon, which was released in 1998.
The director Michael Bay would later direct a film called Pearl Harbor, which was released in 2001, the same year as the 9/11 attacks, which was my generation’s “Pearl Harbor” event. Pearl Harbor and 9/11 were both a series of plane crashes.
12-year-old Michael’s full name was Michael Thompson Bay, which makes it very interesting that he died in a plane crash.

There’s more personal synchronicity here. As mentioned, Michael’s mom’s name was Kathleen, which is also my mom’s name. I have three older half-brothers on my mom’s side, the youngest of whom was born on May 15th – the same date Michael and Kathleen perished. My brother was born in ’76. Kathleen was born on the 76th day of the year:
