Baylor’s Championship a Tribute to the 1993 Waco Siege

The 2021 Men’s NCAA Tournament Championship game was a tribute to the Waco Siege, which occurred in Texas in the year ’93. The Baylor Bears played Gonzaga University, who got to the championship game by scoring 93 points on the 93rd day of the year. The winner of the game was Baylor University, whose campus is in Waco, Texas.

Basketball Hall of Famer Elgin Baylor was 86‘d at the age of 86 just two weeks before the game. The Lakers, who Baylor spent his entire professional career with, scored 86 points in their final game before the championship:

Notice how 82 Branch Davidians died. Baylor’s victory concluded the 82nd NCAA Men’s Basketball tournament. The mascot for Baylor University is a Bear.

Baylor was led to their title by head coach Scott Drew. “Coincidentally”, he won the championship in Indianapolis, which is where his alma mater, Butler University is located. The MVP of this year’s tournament was a player on his team named Jared Butler.
