William Byron Wins Second Consecutive Daytona 500 Ahead of Reddick
On the final lap, Hendrick driver William Byron stayed clear of The Big One by sticking close to the barrier, emerging from the smoke in first place. He stayed in front through the final turn to secure his second straight victory at the Great American Race:
A couple of weeks ago, I made this post previewing the Daytona 500. It focused on 23XI driver Tyler Reddick, who had a tough qualifying session and didn’t fare much better in the race, unable to climb out of the middle pack for the entirety of the race.
However, as the climactic chaos played out, Reddick found himself clear of danger, able to follow Byron into the final corner. I nearly had a heart attack as he looked to be in position to make a run for the win, but alas, the #24 car was able to hold on, meaning Reddick had achieved a highly-unlikely second place:
The Beast
To start the race, U.S. President Donald Trump led the drivers on some pace laps in his armored vehicle called The Beast:
It had been 45 weeks since William Byron had last won a race. Ty = 45 Reddick = 45 drives the #45 car sponsored by The Beast:
