(WWE) AJ Styles Fake Retirement - Mark Henry Tribute

On the May 31st edition of WWE SmackDown! on the Fox Network, AJ Styles dressed up in a nice suit and stood in the ring to announce his retirement. However, it was all a lure in order to lull his rival Cody Rhodes into a false sense of security so he could attack him.

Faking your retirement in pro wrestling is pretty shady. Not only because it plays the crowd for heat, but more importantly, it effects future retirements on the show. Wrestlers who are actually leaving the business want that genuine heartfelt fan response, but if the fans are used to being tricked, they may not allow that special moment to happen.

This being the case, WWE had not done a fake retirement in almost eleven years. As the headline states, Mark Henry pulled this same trick off on John Cena back in 2013.

In fact, believe it or not, I decoded Henry’s lie a long time ago and you can see the video re-uploaded on my backup YouTube channel:

The numbers 311 and 113 are paired up when it comes to deception in media. In fact, I purposely made my video above 3:11 to help demonstrate that fact.
