Singer Moonbin of K-Pop Group Astro Dies @ 25

A man with the name Moon from a band named Astro? If you thought I would pass on this story, you clearly don’t know very much about me.

With a name like Moon Bin, I thought to first check his Lunar age. A “Lunar year” is 12 Lunar phases, or New Moons, which is about 11 days shorter than a solar year, and is the root of the Islamic calendar. The traditional Korean, or Dangun calendar, is Lunisolar.

Bin was born on a date with numerology of 26, which was also the 26th day of the year:

While the surname Moon is certainly common in Korea by American standards, it’s actually one of the lesser common surnames in Korea, with it belonging to under 1% of the total population.

Another famous person there with the surname Moon is former South Korean president Moon Jae-in, who held office until May of last year.

He was also part of a duo called Moonbin & Sanha with fellow singer Yoon San-ha, whose birthday is 3/21, which has the same three digits as 312. Like Bin, Sanha is also a member of Astro.
