“Taxicab Numbers”, aka “Ramanujan-Hardy Numbers”
This post will be unique, in that it combines historical numerology with the organic matrix. In order to make sense of this, I need to explain how it came up in the first place.
I woke up to a text message from the eldest of my three older brothers, the only one who takes an active interest in what I teach. Since today is Veteran’s Day, and I have off of work, I figured I’d dig into it a little bit. Here’s my paraphrased short version of his text:
“I had a dream that I was a telemarketer raising money for lung cancer research. A man on the phone said he had pledged $200. I was then transported to outside his house, where his daughter was outside, crying. I became suspicious of abuse and asked if she was in danger, to which she quietly replied ‘yes’.
I checked the address before riding a bike around the corner to call the police. The address was 1729, which I remembered by noting that it was the sum of multiple sets of cubed numbers.
1^3 (1) + 12^3 (1728) = 1729
9^3 (729) + 10^3 (1000) = 1729
I had done this math IN the dream. When I woke up, I checked my math, and it was actually correct. I looked up the number 1729 and found this: 1729 (Wiki). What the hell is going on?”
1729 is what’s called a taxicab number. For all intents and purposes, it’s really the only one, as the next taxicab number is eight digits long. The name “taxicab” comes from the story of mathematician Srinivasa Ramanujan meeting up with fellow researcher G.H. Hardy.
For quite some time, I have been a proponent of the theory that our dreams originate from something other than just our own minds. This post is about a bizarre synchronicity I had in my dreams in back-to-back nights, and I’ve definitely had more than I did not bother to post about. This appears to be a similar case.
2+0+1+6 = 9, so that date reflects the number 1729.
My favorite number is 1331, the ultimate eclipse number. 1331 is 11×11×11, making it another cubed number. 1+1 = 2, and today’s date is 11/11/20.
Today has Primary numerology of 62 and leaves 50 days on the calendar:
Ramanujan died on 4+26+20 = 50, a little over 50 years before my brother was born.
In the dream where my brother learned about this taxicab number, he was a telemarketer.
He was raising money for lung cancer.
Recall how the man on the phone had pledged $200.
Ramanujan died in the year 1920.
He was in his 33rd year since birth. Today is 33 days before the 2020 total solar eclipse:
33 is 11+11+11. If you multiply 11×11×11, you get 1331. As mentioned above, “Cube” = 13 / 31 and 1331 is the ultimate eclipse number.
Ramanujan-Hardy numbers were defined in 1919. In that year, we had the longest total solar eclipse in 503 years, and the longest annular eclipse in 272 years.
