Formula One Returns From Break, Leclerc Wins United States GP

The big news story this week was the death of One Direction member Liam Payne. See my post on that if you haven’t already, as it was completely synced to Pope Francis and the planet Saturn.

Is it not highly intriguing then that this race marked the debut of Liam Lawson as a full-time F1 driver? The Kiwi took part in a few Grands Prix in 2023 for an injured Daniel Ricciardo, but now he’s in the seat for the rest of the year and possibly next.

Lawson performed wonderfully, climbing all the way up to a points-paying position in ninth place after starting at the back of the grid. But the real star of the race was Charles Leclerc, who started in 4th but made up three places on Turn 1 and drove off into the distance for an uncontested victory.

For the first time in almost four months, the Safety Car had to be deployed during the race. This happened after the only retirement from the United States Grand Prix, which was Lewis Hamilton – who happens to be Leclerc’s teammate with Ferrari next season.
